EMILY BALL

Emily Ball is a multifaceted artist whose work reflects her rich experiences across diverse cultures and environments. Emily earned her Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College with a focus in Studio Arts. After college, she immersed herself in nature as a wilderness school counselor and a student of the National Outdoor Learning School. She deepened her profound appreciation for the natural world and its transformative power. These early connections to nature became cornerstones of her artistic vision.

Emily's academic pursuits led her to study the art and archaeology of the ancient Mayans, immersing herself in the symbolism and craftsmanship of this ancient civilization. Her exploration of cultural narratives continued in Kenya, where she studied the traditions of the Masai and Swahili peoples, deepening her understanding of ritual, identity, and storytelling.

Emily has lived most of her adult life in Hawaii on the island of Maui. As a certified divemaster in Hawaii, Emily expanded her connection to the natural world through the lens of the ocean. Her experiences with Hawaiian marine life and ecosystems profoundly influenced her art, leading her to incorporate totemic symbolism and aquatic themes into her work. The vibrant colors, fluid shapes, and rhythmic patterns of the sea are recurring motifs in her pieces.

As she has done through every stage of her life, Emily has immersed herself in her surroundings, seeking a deep understanding and connection. Many of her paintings serve as a source of enlightenment, celebrating the history and traditions of her beloved Hawaii.

Emily's art bridges cultures, mythologies, and ecosystems, weaving together themes of interconnectedness and transformation. Her creative process often involves collecting natural materials and drawing inspiration directly from her surroundings, whether on land or underwater. Emily also uses her talents to translate her own dreams into intricate watercolors thereby sharing her subconscious experiences with others.
