Hannah Harrison, Untitled, oil on canvas, 24x36x2 in.
INSPIRATION
This piece depicts three vintage mini cookie cutters arranged on a swatch of vintage fabric. While making this painting I thought a lot about the women who used these items in the past, probably for what they were intended; sewing, baking, household acts taken for granted (but indeed are magnificent acts of creativity and service).
In this painting I aim to take their magnificence a step further by highlighting the physical beauty of their form, patterns, color and depth. Just because something has aged or fallen off trend doesn’t mean it is any less magnificent.
ARTIST STATEMENT
There is great beauty in the mundane. Grandeur in the simplest things. I aim to extract the magnificence of color, light, patterns, and form of everyday objects by arranging them in such a way to highlight their forgotten beauty.
By placing them as the subject of a still life, their usual lack of deep intrigue is cast aside by the captivating detail of their reflective qualities, vibrance, and seemingly regal importance. In a world focused on materialism and outer beauty, I aim to feature the worth of what we leave behind as time marches on.
