Allison Bell, Framed, acrylic on Masonite hardboard, 17x13 in. $375
INSPIRATION
This piece is an identity portrait of myself. I explored key factors within me and created a work of art that I felt best represented who I was at the time. Many factors in this piece are complex symbols of myself as a woman and my struggle with more feminine roles.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Drawing and painting have been one of my sole passions for up to eight years. It is the one thing that has stayed consistent throughout my life. In 2024, I decided to pursue artmaking as a career, and settled on UNT to help turn this passion into a living. I typically work with acrylic and Masonite hardboard, but I enjoy printmaking and oil mediums as well. My focus when painting has always relied on precision and clear, clean forms. My brushstrokes rely on sharp edges, and every movement is intentional and full of purpose. I care greatly about color and structure, and I aim to create compositions that feel clear, balanced, as well as teeming with movement. Many of my works are comprised of themes of nature and self-discovery. The inspiration for these pieces mostly comes from my connection to animals and the diverse lives and traits each exhibit. Connecting us together as we are all alike in many ways. This is another topic that is important in understanding myself and the work I produce. I create many pieces that delve into myself as a person, with ties to rebirth, learning, discovery, and repurpose. I express these themes through drawing and painting in a meaningful and intimate way. Painting is how I process who I am becoming. I know I still have room to grow and learn. I want to push my weaknesses and refine my foundation. And I continue to push to make this dream a reality.
