Call for Art Prospectus

CONVERGENCE EXHIBIITION SUMMARY
“Convergence” - The definition of convergence is, the act of converging and especially moving toward union.

Liz Jordan and thMTHRshp are partnering with Art on Main gallery owner, Andrea Lamarsaude, to curate and facilitate Convergence, an exhibition featuring collaborative work (two or more artists working on one piece) of local and national artists working under the theme of collaboration and centered around connection, community, and unity.

All artists 18 years and older may apply. We encourage artists who are historically underrepresented i.e., female-identifying, mothers, members of the LGBTQIA+, disabled, and/or ALAANA communities to apply.

ARTISTS - PLEASE NOTE - ONLY COLLABORATIVE WORKS OF ART WILL BE ACCEPTED. THIS MEANS TWO OR MORE ARTISTS MUST HAVE WORKED TOGETHER TO CREATE THE PIECE SUBMITTED.

The conception and effort of the exhibition itself is a collaboration between two female-identifying gallery owners, uniting to create something unique for East Dallas community, the City of Dallas arts community and the community at large.

Collaborative arts practice involves artists working closely together, often over extended periods of time, to make art. It harnesses the experiences and skills of each person taking part to give meaning and creative expression to the project.

Collaboration builds comradeship as artists move toward a common goal. Often it results in the transfer of technical skills and knowledge from one artist to another. Two or more people working together create something entirely different than each person working alone. It is a symbiosis that results in a new type of work entirely.

EXHIBITION CURATORS

Liz Jordan, thMTHRshp Gallery Director

Liz Jordan is the founder and Director of thMTHRshp, a fine arts gallery with the heart of a collective. She earned a BA in Art History from the University of Louisville and began her art sales career at the Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts in 2007. In 2012, Liz helped establish the health-sector nonprofit, Girls with Guts, a female-focused resource for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ostomy Community. She served as their Director of Development until 2014 when she turned her focus to literacy support for English as a Second Language students, serving children and adults in the DFW area. From there, she worked with students diagnosed with dyslexia, autism, and ADHD and continued her education by completing Dynamic Mindfulness Training with the Niroga Institute in 2018 to support her students with a trauma-informed approach. In all these endeavors, Liz incorporated the practice and appreciation of art, as it has been a constant source of expression and healing for her.

Liz became a mother in 2018 and was inspired and empowered by her discovery of Motherhood Art and the community surrounding it. After meeting Sarah Creasman Barnett at a neighborhood park with their daughters, Liz and Sarah connected through their shared love of art and their experiences as new moms during a pandemic.

Liz’s experiences serving communities in nonprofits, arts, and education sectors, and her serendipitous meeting with Sarah inspired her to create thMTHRshp as a unique art gallery with social justice and community outreach offerings. Liz and all thMTHRshp artists are working to create the world we want for ourselves, our children, and all those seeking equality.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a mixed media artist and enjoy using a variety of mediums in my art; acrylics, oil pastels, watercolor, alcohol and India inks, hand-painted papers & collage elements, photos, image transfers, and mark-making tools.

I love combining and contrasting fluid, free flowing layers of watercolor with hand-painted papers and collage elements to create intuitive and expressive nature inspired works. My imagination, emotion and life experience guide me in my process to paint memorable creations that reflect joy.

I strive to emulate the beauty, splendor and exquisiteness of our world and the sense of happiness it can bring us.

My desire is to visually tell stories with my art and create paintings that reflect the moments that touch my life. My hope is that my work encourages conversations and brings positive, creative energy into the world.
