Brenda Anderson, Duality (triptych), clay and copper wire, 15x26in., $2,000
This piece is a modern interpretation of ceramics that combines traditional techniques with saggar and copper wire elements. The inspiration for the color palette comes from the natural interplay of earth tones and vibrant colors. The tranquility of the sky and the ocean's depth contrasted with the vibrant orange reflect warmth and energy. It is a metaphor for the dual nature of human experience, where calmness and intensity coexist. This coexistence encourages a deeper understanding of oneself, reflecting the myriad emotions and experiences shaping our lives.
Artist Statement
Much like life itself, ceramics, for me, is about chapters. It is about risk-taking, humility, exploration, and discovery. I started my journey with hand-built black clay vessels. Their rugged, unadorned surfaces captured the delicate curvature of the human form and told a story about the tactile nature of our existence.
More recently, my artistic journey has led me to explore surfaces. Energized by these discoveries, I am experimenting and discovering different techniques and ways to express my values and stories through color and texture. This work has become a personal exploration, a platform through which I pose and answer questions about myself and our world.
At the heart of my work is a desire to connect and invite the viewer into my story. Through color, form, and texture, I seek to remind us of the beauty and fragility of our environment, values, and stories. My work asks that you observe more deeply the imprint we leave on the world and that the world leaves on us.
