Azabache Patlache, Anhelo Eterno/Eternal Longing I and II, relief, screenprint and watercolors on eastern paper, 30x15in., $280
Two of a series of five vertical relief prints made from plywood installed side by side of a repetitive landscape of the Popocatepetl volcano inspired by Ukiyo-e prints and my home state, Puebla, MX. Each print has added collages of hummingbirds and bougainvillea flowers, as well as a self-portrait made with the MYCK technique in screen print. In this series, I create a familiar landscape that functions as a sort of dream, and I, being the viewer, feel the longing for my hometown. It's a motivational piece, yet painful knowing how far away I am from home.

Artist Statement
The voices, the stories and the art projects of the indigenous women of Mexico, the codices of the Nahua and the Mixtec and my roots are some of the themes that I repeat in my prints. My work is culturally based on my heritage as an Itzocan woman, born and raised in the Mixteca, Poblana in Puebla, Mexico. The hummingbirds, the bougainvillea flowers, the Popocatepetl volcano and the Tree of Life are elements that I also repeat. Gradually a bond of resistance and community is created with them. My work shows these themes and elements in a practice based on printmaking and paper installations.
