Welcoming Han Cao: Our First Artist in Residence!

A good morning walk

We are thrilled to welcome Dallas-based fiber artist Han Cao as our first Artist in Residence at Art on Main, generously sponsored by Danny Bollinger.

Han Cao is a self-taught artist whose distinctive practice combines hand embroidery with vintage photographs and postcards. Her delicate and detailed stitches breathe new life into forgotten images—creating powerful intersections between memory, loss, and imagination. Drawing from her Vietnamese heritage and her mother’s work as a seamstress, Cao transforms found materials into deeply intimate works that explore identity, displacement, and the quiet beauty of the everyday.

Her work has been exhibited in solo shows at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas, and Paradigm Gallery in Philadelphia, as well as in group exhibitions at the Delaware Contemporary and the Art Academy Museum, among others. Her pieces are held in private collections across the globe.

"Though I do not know the people pictured, their expressions speak of emotions we all carry: tenderness, grief, resilience, joy." – Han Cao

In her own words, Cao’s art is a “quiet act of remembrance and reinvention.” She invites viewers to pause and engage with photographs that time nearly forgot, using thread to stitch together a shared sense of humanity.

Stay tuned in the months ahead as we share behind-the-scenes glimpses into Han’s residency and process—and mark your calendars for this evocative and unforgettable show in January 2026.

Han’s residency will culminate in a solo exhibition, on view January 15 through February 7, 2026, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, January 17, and a Closing Reception and Artist Talk on Saturday, February 7. Save the dates! We hope you will join us!

We are grateful to Danny Bollinger for his generous support of this residency, and for helping us bring Han’s extraordinary vision to Art on Main.
