INSPIRATION
I love to depict strong, independent women and this woman commands the room. I added the pattern of magnolia flowers as a nod to southern women. She reminds me of my own mother and women I knew as a child. The strong colors and patterns support the strength of the message of the painting.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and draw on my memories and iconic imagery of the time while using saturated colors and whimsical detailed backgrounds to invite the viewer into my world of energy and joy.
I am inspired by many artists like Wayne Theibaud, Hope Gangloff, Chuck Close and Gustov Klimpt as well as the many art students I mentored through the years. Through my work I want the viewer to see the beauty and joy in everyday moments.
