Kayleigh Kavanagh Ebenrick | Hope
Kayleigh Kavanagh Ebenrick, Hope, oil on canvas, 36x36x2 in.
INSPIRATION
"Hope" is proof that women can conquer anything. It doesn't matter how big and scary and deep and dark and inevitable "the pit" may seem; women are stronger and can overcome the pull to succumb to the fear / darkness... and that is magnificent! The pit seems immense, and yet, she fearlessly marches ahead.
Stemming from a deeply challenging battle with grief after the loss of my first husband, I strove to create a character - the girl in the painting - who represents each of us... because who of us have NOT been teetering on the edge of despair? Then, after struggling against postpartum depression after the birth of my son, this painting took on new meaning - revisiting the deep dark pit that so many women do after child birth - and yet knowing that God has made us strong enough to handle it all.
Magnificence is revealed when we look around and realize that brave women all over the world are continuing forward, living, giving, building, doing, and achieving in spite of everything that's been thrown at us. I hope you look at this painting and feel the victory and bad-assery of simply defying the world's attempts to bring us down.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Kayleigh Kavanagh is a Dallas-based painter who creates vibrant, contemporary works in oil and acrylic. Kayleigh believes that the art in our homes and public spaces should uplift the spirit, spark joy, and reveal beauty.
Deeply influenced by her own spiritual practice, she seeks to express the transformative power of faith through her work. Inspired by the luminous quality of stained glass windows in sacred spaces, Kayleigh has developed a distinctive style that layers palette knife and brushstrokes to create a prismatic, light-filled effect. Her paintings merge elements of cubism and impressionism, abstracting even familiar subjects into compositions full of movement and color.
Through her fearless use of color and her meticulous layering process, Kayleigh invites viewers to pause, reflect, and encounter a sense of wonder. Her hope is that each piece she creates will not only beautify a space but also inspire and encourage all who encounter it.
