Karen Shields Smith is a Fort Worth–based photographer and curator whose work explores the beauty, power, and spiritual depth of the natural world. Her photography captures landscapes, florals, celestial elements, and wildlife—creating what she describes as “portraits of the environment,” rich with emotion and life.
Inspired by nature’s vastness, she enhances and recreates her images using Adobe Photoshop, blending organic elements with technology. Her signature style often includes vibrant, abstract swirls derived from florals and environmental forms, elevating nature into expressive and transformative compositions.
Karen also photographs women, capturing their strength and grace while reinterpreting their images through creative reconstruction. By merging the female form with elements of nature, her work reflects themes of identity, resilience, and spiritual connections.
Working in both color and black-and-white, her intention is to create imagery that inspires joy, gratitude, and tranquility while awakening a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the earth and humanity.
