INSPIRATION
My inspiration for this piece drew from a trip I took to Brazil. Being there gave me a renewed sense of the power of love for myself, for others, and for the nature around us. I came home wanting to paint that feeling but never did until I saw this call for artists. The theme of "Revealing Our Magnificence" aligns with what I was trying to express, that love is what reveals the magnificence in all of us, and in recognizing our place within something far greater than ourselves and respecting that. I couldn't think of anything more magnificent than that feeling and this felt like a fitting occasion to attempt to share it in a way that hopefully inspires that in others.
The painting reflects the curatorial criteria through its bold, vibrant colors and use of space, and the energy and movement between the winding path, the vast sky, and the figures descending into music and dance. Together, I hope they create an emotional impact that feels both beautiful and alive.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Inspired by my experiences in Brazil, I felt the magnificence of the power of love. In connecting with our inner joy and accepting ourselves, we feel magnificent. In loving each other, we help to nurture each other’s magnificence. In respecting nature, that has seen and will see versions of this world we will never know, we honour and accept its care and love with humble arms.
"Surrounded By Love" is an acrylic painting set against a vibrant Brazilian landscape where figures descend from Christ the Redeemer, a monument of peace and open arms, alive with music and dance. Above it all, a loving presence watches over, as eternal as nature itself. It feels fitting to share it as part of "Revealing Our Magnificence", because that is exactly what this journey has been: a reminder, through love, of something that was always already there.
