Courtney McCartney | Unveiled

$525.00

Courtney McCartney, Unveiled, oil on canvas, 20x24 in.

INSPIRATION
My inspiration for Unveiled came from the idea of becoming, of moving from obscurity into presence. I was interested in capturing a quieter form of magnificence, one that comes rooted in inner strength and authenticity.

The figure is both blending into and emerging from the background, using soft light, movement, and flowing form to show that shift from being unseen to fully realized. I wanted it to feel gentle but powerful. This connects to the theme by interpreting magnificence as something internal and unfolding, rather than overt or performative. Through color, line, and motion, my piece expresses a sense of awakening, presence, and the moment of truly being seen.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores themes of becoming, presence, and the quiet complexity of inner experience. I am drawn to moments where softness and strength exist simultaneously, and I aim to capture a sense of emotional and physical emergence through the figure.

Working in oil, I build layered surfaces that allow forms to shift between clarity and dissolution. I use controlled blending, minimal edges, and subtle transitions in color to create atmospheric spaces where the figure feels both grounded and evolving. Movement, particularly through fabric and surrounding space, plays an important role in suggesting energy and transformation.

I am interested in portraying strength as something internal and often understated—less about performance and more about presence. Through my work, I seek to create images that feel intimate, reflective, and quietly powerful.
