Finding Amazonia - Copper and brass - 6x3 in.

Sculptor and metalsmith Shannon Wylie’s metalwork pieces are influenced by Utopian architecture and its focus on the social, economic and political upliftment of the urban fabric.

The word “utopia” derives from Sir Thomas Moore's fictional account, in 1516, of an idealized, faraway mythical place with the same name. An island with an ideal form of life created by humans to obtain a perfect and pure result.

Artists and architects have since attempted to employ urban planning and the arts to visualize or create livable utopias. Utopian works capture your attention due to their unique and unusual visual impact.
