Katrina Rasmussen, Sacred Ground

$1,200.00

Katrina Rasmussen, Sacred Ground, 12×36×2.5 in., oil, paint sticks and cold wax on canvas

I began painting Sacred Ground a year ago, intending it to be a desert meditation set along the border in Big Bend National Park. As the work progressed this summer, my approach to the canvas changed dramatically: the interminable heat, images of bulldozers in the canyon, and the outcry of Terlingua's community made me feel frantic and helpless. The brushwork on "Sacred Ground" is my battle cry, for a landscape that is irreplaceable, and for stewardship: of beauty, of community, of all that we have to lose.
