Andrea Bain, Mother Nature's Illuminating Light, alcohol ink, Prisma colored pencil and permanent markers, 16x20in., $400
The theme of this submission inspired me to create a piece that represents beauty and light that will be shown through nature, as spring begins to shine through the darkness of winter. The hands depicted in my work, not only represent those of mother nature, but those of nurturing mothers everywhere. Their hands are used to guide our growing youth with wisdom and grace, through our cold world.

Artist Statement
Art has been a major part of my life. As a small child my mother noticed that my art was different than that of my peers. She encouraged, nurtured and supported my interests in anything creative. I feel that my talent and my creativity is in my DNA. Creating drawings, paintings, silver jewelry, sewing and making mixed media items calms my spirit and fills my soul. I love the whimsy represented in my floral designs because it evokes an emotion in people, usually a smile. I love vibrant color, shapes and patterns. My art has evolved though the years. In retirement I feel that I have a new freedom. I am working more, working harder, working larger and trying to make a difference in a world where everyone is in a hurry. When people see my art, I want them to stop, look and enjoy what they feel. My hope is that if only for a moment my work will inspire them and refresh their mind.
